The October 1927 edition of the seminal experimental literary journal Transition, edited by Eugene Jolas and Elliott Paul and published in Paris by Shakespeare and Co.

Includes 'Work in Progress' by James Joyce (22 unpublished pages of Finnegans Wake) - William Carlos Williams' 'A Voyage to Pagany' - poetry by Robert Graves and Hans Arp among others - sculpture by Alexander Calder and paintings by Max Ernst - as well as many other pieces of avant garde and surrealist writing by a stellar list of innovative writers.

A magical piece of literary history.

180 pages. Four illustrated plates in black-and-white. 

Condition: The thin paper cover is poor with water damage, staining to the front and fading/rubbing to the rear.. However the book is fully intact, tightly bound and the interior pages are very good and clean throughout with age-related yellowing to the outer edges. The illustrated plates are good. Contemporaneous UK bookseller sticker attached to the front page showing UK price and a bookseller address.
