Japanese photography in the 1960s gave birth to a creative explosion of brilliant publications, small run books and zines that relished the black ink of gravure printing and created an aesthetic almost completely its own. This iconic book draws from the vast library of Ryūichi Kanelo to  provide a comprehensive visual history of this exciting time and featuring hundreds of these coveted photobooks.

Features an interview with Daido Moraiyama, an early and prolific exponent of the black-and-white phonebook. Includes Nbuyoshi Araki's "Sentimental Journey," Eikoh Hosoe's "Man and Woman" and Kishin Shinoyama "Nudes."

First edition. Hardcover with Obi strip. 31cm x 24cm. 230 pages densely illustrated in black-and-white and colour.

Condition: A very good copy with just some light corner wear to top right corner, and light creasing to the Obi at the fold. The interiors are excellent throughout.
