Authors Take Sides on the Spanish War / Pamphlet / 1937 / Left Review

A highly sought-after pamphlet from 1937.

At the start of the Spanish Civil War the Left Review wrote to hundreds of writers to ask if they were for the Republic or for Franco and the fascists. 148 writers replied including H G Wells, Samuel Beckett, Evelyn Waugh, Aleister Crowley, Ezra Pound, Arthur Machen and T. S. Eliot. The pamphlet was quickly published and sold on the streets of the UK. With its limited word count, rapid distribution, hot takes and occasional trolling (Samuel Beckett!) this feels like the closest the early 20th century got to modern social media. 

Very scarce. Few copies survived because of the cheap paper. 

First and only edition of 3000. Published by the Left Review in 1937.

Condition: A good copy. Light marking and general sunning to covers. Rust to staples and sporadic spotting internally.
